Prince George Cougars News Release
Prince George, B.C. - The Prince George Cougars are pleased to announce that 20-year-old forward Chase Witala (Prince George, B.C.) has been named WHL Player of the Week. In three games last week (January 25th - January 31st) Witala scored three goals and added four assists for seven points and was a +5.
This marks the second league honor that Witala has received within the past month. He was named WHL Player of the Month for December after he scored 14 goals and added nine assists for 23 points in 13 games. He followed that up with seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points in 14 January games. He currently leads the team in scoring with 57 points and is tied for the team lead in goals with 31.
"After an excellent month of December, Chase has continued to provide us with consistency, leadership and timely scoring," said Prince George Cougars Head Coach, Mark Holick. "His individual success continues to be a big factor in our team success and we are proud of Chase for receiving this honor."
Originally selected by the Prince George Cougars in the fifth round of the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft, Witala has played his entire career with Prince George. He has scored 111 goals, and 106 assists for 217 points in 282 games which puts him fifth all-time in franchise scoring. He's also just one goal shy of surpassing Eric Hunter for the all-time lead in goals scored by Cougar.
Witala will look to make history tomorrow night when the Cougars continue their six-game Eastern road swing in Saskatoon against the Blades. So far on the trip the Cougars have earned three of four possible points and are coming off a 6-2 victory over Moose Jaw on Saturday.
