Toledo Mud Hens News Release

The Hens and Tides headed into Friday night's game with two very different story lines. For Toledo they looked to bring down their deficit in the IL West to single digits, while Norfolk with a victory could have a share of first place in the IL South. Tim Melville took the bump for the Hens, looking to build off of his last strong start against Norfolk in which he went six full frames. The big right hander stuck around for seven strong innings Friday night, surrendering just two runs on six hits.

Things got kicked off on the offensive side of the ball in the bottom of the second on a Michael Almanzar sac fly, scoring Steve Clevenger and putting the Tides up 1-0. For Toledo, it was Tyler Collins picking up right where he left off, as he struck an RBI single in the bottom half of the fourth, bringing around Jefry Marte and knotting the game at one run a piece. In the sixth, with the score once again tied at two, a wild pitch delivered by Norfolk's Wesley Wright allowed Mike Hessman to cross the plate and the Hens to take a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the eighth the dog fight continued as Angel Nesbitt surrendered an RBI single plating Henry Urrutia and tying the score for the third time in the game, as the battle headed into extras.

In the eleventh, Jefry Marte gave Tides reliever Pedro Beato a warm welcome, scorching his eleventh home run of the year over the left field wall taking the lead, only to be relinquished once again in the bottom of the tenth as Christian Walker plated Norfolk's fourth run on an RBI double off reliever Jose Valdez. Finally the Tides broke through with the winning run on a bases loaded ground ball by Michael Almanzar, in which Dixon Machado could not handle, giving Valdez the loss.

The two teams are back in action Saturday night at 7:05pm in Norfolk.
