
Tides Spoil Severino's RailRiders Debut

Moosic, PA - The Norfolk Tides spoiled the Triple-A debut of Luis Severino and took the series from the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (New York Yankees) with a 7-2 decision on Sunday afternoon at PNC Field. The Tides (29-22) won four of the six meetings with the RailRiders (26-25). SWB finished 12-15 against the International League South division.
Severino allowed two runs on five hits across five innings in his first outing with SWB. The Yankees' No. 1 prospect per Baseball America walked three and struck out three. Tyler Webb (1-3) suffered the loss after allowing an unearned run on three hits in 1.2 innings. Zach Davies (3-3) stymied the RailRiders for five innings, yielding two runs on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
The Tides opened the scoring with two down in the second. David Freitas and Michael Almanzar cracked consecutive doubles to tally the first run.
The RailRiders followed with two in the bottom of the frame. Austin Romine doubled and Tyler Austin followed with a walk. Cole Figueroa bounced out to second, but advanced the runners. Rob Segedin scored Romine on a grounder to short and reached on a throwing error by Rey Navarro. Nick Noonan followed with a single to center that scored Austin for a 2-1 edge.
Norfolk tied the game against Webb in the fifth on a single by Chris Parmelee that scored Derrik Gibson. Henry Urrutia put the Tides ahead for good in the sixth on thanks to a double tucked inside the left-field line that plated Julio Borbon.
Gibson pushed the advantage to 5-2 in the eight on a two-run double. Urrutia followed with a two-baser to score Gibson. Almanzar grounded out to first in the ninth inning, pushing across the final tally.
The RailRiders welcome the Pawtucket Red Sox (Boston Red Sox) to PNC Field on Monday night for a three-game series. Right-hander Kyle Davies (3-3, 4.79) is expected to face RHP Jess Todd (1-1, 4.26).
