Syracuse Mets News Release
Durham, NC (May 31, 2015) - The Syracuse Chiefs dropped the final game of a three-game series to the Durham Bulls, 3-0, Sunday evening at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in downtown Durham. The Bulls posted single runs in the first, second, and seventh to sweep the series.
Durham (29-23) scored in the first inning for the second straight game. Ryan Brett led off with a single against Sam Runion. After a strikeout and walk, Allan Dykstra doubled off the right-field wall, scoring Brett to give the Bulls a 1-0 lead.
The Bulls added a second run an inning later. Corey Brown walked to start the inning and stole second. He moved to third on a single by Leonardo Reginatto. Brown scored on a sacrifice fly by Brett to give the Bulls a 2-0 lead.
Syracuse (17-33) came close to a run in the fourth. Emmanuel Burriss doubled off Matt Andriese with one out, followed by a single by Mark Minicozzi to right field. Mikie Mahtook fielded the ball in right and threw out Burriss at the plate to cut down a run.
The Bulls were held off the board until the seventh, thanks to four outstanding innings from Mitch Lively out of the bullpen. Lively allowed just three hits and struck out five in his four innings of work.
The Bulls finished off the scoring in the seventh. Taylor Motter was hit by a Jose Valverde pitch with one out. Motter stole second and scored on a double by Mahtook to extend the Durham lead to 3-0.
The Chiefs return home to open a three-game series against the Louisville Bats Monday at 7:05 p.m. Scott McGregor is scheduled to start for the Chiefs, opposite Dylan Axelrod for the Bats.
