Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (20-32) allowed a pair of unearned runs in a 2-0 loss to the Charlotte Knights (29-21) on Sunday afternoon.
The Knights took a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the top of the third. A pair of singles and an error charged to Tyler Henson loaded the bases with two outs before Jason Coats delivered an RBI infield single on a slow roller down the third base line.
For the Pigs, RHP Chris Leroux (3.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 5 K), RHP Tyler Knigge (2.0 IP, H, BB, 3 K), RHP Seth Rosin (0.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER) and LHP Nick Hill (2.2 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 2 K) combined to toss eight innings without allowing an earned run.
However, Leroux was tagged with the loss and falls to 0-1 on the year.
Charlotte tacked on another unearned run in the sixth as Tyler Colvin reached on an error charged to IronPigs SS Jayson Nix which allowed Matt Davidson to score and gave the Knights a 2-0 lead.
RHP Scott Carroll (2-1) earned the win for the Knights by tossing five shutout frames and allowing just one hit while fanning three. LHP Zach Phillips (1.0 IP, K) retired the side in order in the ninth to notch his first save of the season.
Lehigh Valley was held to a season-low three hits in the game, with Brian Bogusevic, Jordan Danks and Cord Phelps each recording one apiece. Phelps extended his hitting streak to six games with a single.
The Pigs will have an off day Monday before beginning a six-game homestand on Tuesday night when they host the Rochester Red Wings at Coca-Cola Park. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. as LHP Joely Rodriguez (2-4, 5.27) gets the ball for the Pigs against Wings LHP Jason Wheeler (1-3, 6.02).
