Toledo Mud Hens News Release

The Mud Hens' have been a pretty predictable team this season when they trail in the late innings of the ballgame, but Saturday night's game was a different story. Down to their final strike the Hens fought back and blew the Indians' one run ninth inning lead and would go on to win the marathon of a ballgame, 9-8.

Both offenses were extremley active from the get go Saturday night as Steven Moya got things rolling for the Hens in the top of the first on a line drive RBI double bringing around Dixon Machado and taking the lead. However, Indianapolis answered right back in the bottom half as Alen Hanson crushed a home run to right field off of Hens' starter Thad Weber.

After plating a few additonal runs in the third and fourth the Hens took their most commanding lead of the game in the fifth as Xavier Avery struck a sac fly bringing home Jeff McVaney and extending the lead to 6-2. But the first place Indians showed exactly why they hold the top spot in the division, storming their way back from the four run deficit. In the 5th the Indians put together four runs on three hits, highlighted by a Tony Sanchez single bringing around the tying run and knotting the game at six a piece.

Indianapolis' Alec Hanson broke the tie with yet another clutch knock, doubling to left in the sixth off of Hens' reliever Guido Knudson and bringing around Gustavo Nunez to take the lead at 7-6. Just when the game looked to be over, with Indians' closer Blake Wood on to notch the save, the Hens struck a rally. Steven Moya would bring around Dixon Machado and Daniel Fields on a clutch two out, two strike RBI single to take the lead. Moya would carry the Hens'offense on his back down the stretch in this 3 hour and 33 minute game going 3-6 with four runs batted in. Jefry Marte followed Moya by bringing home the ninth run of the game and extending the Hens' lead to two, with an RBI double. Jose Valdez picked up the win in relief and Alberto Cabrera notched his fourth save of the season.

The Mud Hens are back in action tomorrow in the final game of the series at 1:35 in Indianapolis. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
