Norfolk Tides News Release

June 19, 2006 - Jose Lima threw 6.0 shutout innings, leading the Tides to a 6-0 shutout over the Louisville Bats in front of 8,790 fans at Harbor Park Monday night.

Lima (6-4) yielded just four hits and two walks, helping to end the Bats' season-high winning streak of eight straight games. The 33-year-old struck out five, and improved to 4-1 with a 2.56 ERA since returning to Norfolk after a three-game stint with the New York Mets earlier this year.

The Tides wasted no time in giving Lima some early run support, as Michael Tucker hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first, scoring Jose Offerman and putting the Tides up 2-0.

Norfolk added to their lead in the second, as Sandy Martinez, Anderson Hernandez and Jeff Keppinger each connected for RBI singles off of Louisville starter Tom Shearn (3-2) to put Norfolk up 5-0.

Jacob Cruz, making his first start in a Tides uniform, singled home a run in the 8th inning for the final margin. Every Tides position player connected for a hit on the evening, as Norfolk improved to 4-3 on the current eight-game homestand.

Blake McGinley and Royce Ring followed Lima's efforts with 3.0 scoreless innings to help complete the shutout, Norfolk's fourth of the year. Ring now has 17 consecutive scoreless outings out of the Tides bullpen, throwing 20.0 scoreless innings over that stretch.

The Tides will conclude their eight-game homestand with a 12:15 contest Tuesday afternoon from Harbor Park. Evan MacLane (6-1, 2.82) will take the hill for Norfolk against Louisville southpaw Phil Dumatrait (1-2, 3.57).
