TONIGHT'S GAME: The third of a four game series and the seventh of eight meetings with the Red Sox, the third of four at The Diamond. Richmond is 0-6 vs. Pawtucket. Game seven of an eight game homestand (the Braves are 0-6). The Braves were 2-6 vs. the Red Sox last season, 1-3 at The Diamond. This is the 31st of 48 games vs. North Division opponents, Richmond is 10-20 vs. the North Division. The 19th of 24 home games vs. North Division opponents (Richmond is 9-9). The Braves are 325-330 all- time vs. Pawtucket. The Braves are fourth in the South, 22.5 games behind first place Charlotte. The Red Sox third in the North, eight and a half games back.

YESTERDAY'S GAME: The Red Sox beat the Braves 8-5 in 17 innings Sunday at The Diamond. The Red Sox erupted for three runs in the 17th to beat Richmond for the sixth straight time. Pawtucket jumped out with a run in the first on a sacrifice fly by Ron Calloway. They made it 2-0 in the third on a solo home run by Dustin Pedroia. Corky Miller chased a run home with a single in the fourth to stretch the Sox lead to 3-0. The Braves bounced back with two runs in the home half on a Bill McCarthy sac fly and an RBI ground ball by Cesar Crespo. The Sox opened up a 5-2 advantage in the eighth on a home run by Hee-Sop Choi and a run scoring single by Adam Stern. The Braves batted around in the last of the ninth to force extra innings. McCarthy singled a run home. Tony Pena knocked in a run with a single. Pinch hitter Dax Norris chased a run home with a two out single to tie the game at five. The game remained deadlocked into the 17th. Luke Allen singled a run home to put the Sox ahead to stay. Alejandro Machado provided insurance with a two run single. Tim Bausher picked up the win. Barry Hertzler earned a save. Franklin Nunez took the loss. Wayne Franklin and Jonathan Johnson each worked four innings of scoreless relief for the Braves. Brayan Pena and Carlos Mendez had two hits for the Braves. Luke Allen had four hits for the Red Sox. The game was the Braves longest in both innings and time (4:35) since June 6, 2003 when the Braves played an 18 inning, five hour and 23 minute game at Louisville.

WORKING OVERTIME: The Braves are second in the IL in extra inning games with 13. They are 4-9 in bonus frames. Yesterday's game was the longest home game in innings since August 1, 1999 when the Braves and Columbus Clippers played 17 innings. The club record is 22 innings (twice, both vs. Syracuse, here in 1966 and on the road in 1980).

CAN'T TELL THE PLAYERS WITHOUT A PROGRAM: The Braves released OF David Kelton today. He hit .216 with one HR and 10 RBI in 46 games. The Braves promoted OF Gregor Blanco to fill that roster spot. Blanco was hitting .287 with nine RBI and 17 steals in 66 games with the M-Braves. He is the 10th player promoted from Mississippi to Richmond this season. The roster stands at 24 (12 pitchers, three catchers, five infielders, and four outfielders). The Braves have made 73 roster moves this season. The Braves have had 14 players promoted to Atlanta this season. They had 14 called up all of last year.

STREAKING: Jamal Strong has hits in eight straight games (8-33 .242). Brayan Pena has hits in four straight games (7-17 .412). He is five for his last 10. Braves pinch hitters are 3-21 (.142). Martin Prado has hits in six straight games since his call-up from Mississippi (10-24 .417). Carlos Mendez has hits in three straight games (5-16 .313). Michael Ryan has hits in the last four games he's started. Gregor Blanco had a seven game hitting streak with Mississippi at the time of his promotion. The Braves have 10 or more hits in three straight games and 29 in their last two. Opponents have first inning runs in three straight games. Jonathan Schuerholz is hitting .280 (7-25) in his last seven games. The Braves lead the IL in wins when trailing after eight innings (four).
