Richmond, VA - The Pawtucket Red Sox beat the Richmond Braves 5-3 at The Diamond Monday. The Red Sox jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held off late Braves rallies to beat Richmond for the seventh straight time.
The Sox took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI ground ball by David Murphy. Adam Stern smacked a home run in the third to make it 2-0. The Sox stretched their lead to 3-0 in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Jeff Bailey. Richmond got on the board in the seventh on a Bill McCarthy home run. The Sox picked up another run in the eighth to push their lead to 4-1 on an RBI double by Dustin Pedroia. Richmond fought back in the eighth with a pair of runs to cut Pawtucket's advantage to 4-3. Michael Ryan and Tony Pena knocked in runs with singles. The Sox added an insurance run in the ninth when Ken Huckaby chased a run home with a single.
Charlie Zink picked up the win. Ryan Schroyer earned a save. Daniel Curtis took the loss. Tony Pena had three hits for the Braves. Adam Stern, David Murphy, Ken Huckaby, and Alejandro Machado all had two hits for Pawtucket.
The Braves finish their homestand vs. the Red Sox tomorrow at 2 PM. Kevin Barry will pitch for the Braves against Kevin Guyette
