
Thunderstruck II: Five-Run Seventh Too Much for Curve

TRENTON, N.J. - For the second straight night, one big inning by the Trenton Thunder sank the Altoona Curve in Friday night's 10-4 loss at ARM & HAMMER Park. The Thunder scored five runs in the seventh inning to break a 4-4 tie and pull away from the Curve.
Trenton (44-36) took three-of-four in the series from Altoona (43-37).
Trenton broke a 4-4 tie in the eighth against Matt Benedict (Loss, 3-3) with a two-run single by Dan Fiorito. Jake Cave hit a two-run single and Ali Castillo followed with an RBI single to put the Thunder ahead, 9-4. On the first pitch of the bottom of the eighth, Gary Sanchez hit a solo homer to stretch the lead to 1-0.
Altoona opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI double by Max Moroff, who scored on a single by Dan Gamache. Jose Osuna gave the Curve a 3-0 lead in the third with an RBI double.
After two runs in the third for the Thunder, Josh Bell brought in Frazier with a single to put the Curve ahead 4-2.
The Thunder scored a run in the fourth before a single by Tony Renda tied the game in the fifth.
Zack Dodson did not earn a decision after allowing four runs (three earned) on 10 hits over six innings with a walk and a strikeout.
Gamache had three hits, including a double, scored and drove in one.
Trenton reliever Cesar Vargas (Win, 5-0) pitched two scoreless innings. Nick Goody had five strikeouts over two innings to finish off the Thunder win.
The Curve return home for the Fourth of July with FIREWORKS on Saturday night at PNG Field. Gates will open at 6 p.m. with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. To open the series with the Harrisburg Senators, right-hander Tyler Glasnow (2-2, 2.45) will be on the mound for the Curve. Lefty Matthew Spann (2-0, 3.21) takes the hill for the Senators.
