
Bats finish off Rock Cats in finale

Reading Fightin Phils News Release
The Fightin Phils (43-37) hit their way to a 12-7 win over the New Britain Rock Cats (42-38) on Friday night to win the series three games to one. Reading finished the road trip at 5-2 with two series wins.
Pat Valaika and Tom Murphy hit solo home runs off Hoby Milner in the bottom of the first inning to give the Rock Cats a 2-0 lead over the Fightin Phils. Harold Martinez cut the deficit to 2-1 as he hit a RBI single off Rock Cats starter Shane Carle (8-5) to score Drew Heid in the top of the second inning.
New Britain pulled ahead with two more runs to take a 4-1 lead off Milner in the bottom of the second inning. The Fightins tied the game at 4-4 off Carle in the top of the third inning. Rene Garcia hit a RBI single which was followed by a sacrifice fly by Drew Heid and a RBI groundout from Brian Pointer. An error by Juan Ciriaco attributed to the inning as it allowed Kelly Dugan to reach safely in the second at-bat of the inning.
The Rock Cats scored again off Milner in the bottom of the third inning to take a 5-4 lead as Jeremy Barfield hit a solo home run. Reading took a 6-5 lead off Carle in the top of the fourth inning as Kelly Dugan hit a two-run double to score KC Serna and JP Crawford. Shane Broyles entered the game after Carle was removed following the Dugan double.
Hoby Milner left the game after three innings as he allowed five runs off seven hits with one strikeout. Colton Murray entered the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Fightin Phils aided him with five runs in the top of the sixth inning to extend their lead to 11-5. Dugan and Brock Stassi were walked by Broyles with one out. Broyles left the game for Kraig Sitton who gave up a single to load the bases. Drew Heid and Harold Martinez hit two-run doubles while Brian Pointer hit a RBI double.
Colton Murray (1-0) tossed three scoreless innings with four hits and one strikeout for his first win of the season with Reading. Tom Windle entered the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. Rock Cats got one run off Windle in the bottom of the eighth inning to cut the lead to 12-6 for Reading.
Ryan O'Sullivan pitched the bottom of the ninth inning for the Fightin Phils. Kelly Dugan and Rene Garcia each extended their hitting streaks.
The Fightin Phils return to Baseballtown on Saturday night to begin a six-game home stand. The Trenton Thunder will make their only visit to FirstEnergy Stadium. First pitch is at 7:05 pm. Fans can listen to the game on CBS Sports Radio 1240 AM/98-5 FM and fightins.com beginning at 6:05 pm.
