Senators' Gilberto Mendez Added to the Western Division All-Star Team

HARRISBURG, PA. - In conjunction with the Eastern League and the Portland Sea Dogs, Gilberto Mendez has been selected to replace the recently promoted Paul Demny on the Western Division All-Star team. Mendez joins Austin Voth and Pedro Severino as the representatives for the Senators in the Eastern League All-Star Game, which will take place on July 15 at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine. Demny, who had an ERA of 1.64 in 22 games with Harrisburg this season, was promoted to AAA Syracuse Thursday.
Gilberto Mendez is 3-2 with a team-high eight saves and an ERA of 3.00 in 26 games this season. Mendez, who has blown just one save opportunity this season, has walked eight and struck out 35. He has been especially good of late with an ERA of 0.86 in his last 14 appearances (21 innings), during which he is 1-0 and 5-for-5 in saves. Mendez was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Washington Nationals in 2011.
