WEEK IN REVIEW - Wichita played a home-and-home series with the Tulsa Oilers this past weekend. On Friday, Wichita trailed 1-0 heading into the second, but Landon Oslanski's goal evened things up at one. The Oilers eventually won the contest, 2-1 in a shootout. The two teams followed up a low scoring contest with a combined 10 goals on Saturday night with Tulsa edging out Wichita by the final of 6-4.
CLOSE CALLS - Wichita and Tulsa continue to play tight hockey games in the StoneWolf Casino Cup Series. Friday's shootout loss marked the fourth-straight game between the two teams that went past regulation and three in a row that needed a shootout to decide the outcome. In fact, six of the nine meetings have been decided by one goal.
WORKING OVERTIME - Wichita has played seven of its last 11 games past regulation. The Thunder are 3-4 in shootout situations and 1-1 with games being decided in the overtime period. Wichita is 7-6-1-4 in one-goal games this season.
MILESTONES - Ian Lowe appeared in his 300th career game as a pro this past Friday. He also netted his 200th pro point and 100th assist in a Thunder uniform on Saturday. The Bradwardine, Manitoba native has 168 points (68g, 100a) in Thunder blue. He also has points in three games (1g, 3a).
FITTING IN - Kale Kerbashian is already making an impact in just two games for the Thunder. He has three points (1g, 2a) in two games and is currently riding a three-game point streak (2g, 3a).
LAND OF OZ - Landon Oslanski has picked up his point production over the last three games. He has goals in back-to-back contests and points in his last three (2g, 1a).
RETURNING TO FORM - David Shantz has been solid in the month of January. Over his last three starts, the Hamilton, Ontario native is 2-0-0-1 with a goals-against average of 1.26 and save percentage of .949. He has stopped 74 of 78 shots and only allowed four goals in his last three games.
WESTERN BOUND - Wichita will hit the road later this week for its first-ever trip to Salt Lake City to take on the Utah Grizzlies. The two teams will play back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday and then a Monday afternoon meeting on Martin Luther King Day.
