Toledo Walleye News Release

Walleye Notes

Terrific goaltending and great defense leads to a weekend sweep in Reading: Goaltender Jeff Lerg was key on Friday night with 48 saves in a 3-1 Walleye win at Reading. Saturday night, Toledo scored three-second-period goals to grab the lead and downed the Royals 4-2 to post the road sweep.

Road kings : Toledo has collected at least one point so far this year in 16 of the 22 road contests with a record of 13-6-1-2 away from the friendly confines of the Huntington Center. The 13 road victories are the second most in the ECHL (Florida and Missouri each have 15).

Lerg wall in full effect : Goaltender Jeff Lerg has been simply brilliant not only for this past week (2-0-0, 1.50 GAA and .962 SVP) but for the better part of this season. Since starting the season with a 3-2-2 record, Lerg has a record of 12-2-0 with a goals against average of 1.84 and a save percentage of .939 during his past 14 starts. For the season, the 29-year-old goaltender ranks second in the league with 15 wins, fifth with a 1.92 GAA and fifth with a .934 SVP.

Jenks joins Grand Rapids : On Sunday, the Grand Rapids Griffins added A.J. Jenks to their roster. It is thefirst call-up to the AHL this season Jenks who has 178 career games at that level (17G, 27A). The 25-year-old forward has posted 25 points (11G, 14A) in 33 games with the Walleye this season and has scored a goal in three straight games. The Griffins play a pair of games in Charlotte on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

Defense is huge key: Since Toledo's 4-5-1 first ten games, the Walleye have a record of 16-5-1-2 over the past 24 contests. A big reason for that success comes on the defensive side of the puck as they have allowed a total of 54 goals (2.25 per game). On the season, Toledo ranks fifth in the ECHL allowing a total of 2.42 goals per event.

Start of an eight-game home stand: On Friday, the Evansville IceMen enter Toledo as the Walleye start an eight-game home stretch that will last until early February. Toledo is 1-1-0 vs. the IceMen this season with a win at Evansville and then a 3-2 loss at home on December 9. Saturday night the Wheeling Nailers show up in T-Town. The Walleye have taken two of the first three meetings this season vs. Wheeling.

Promotional fun : Friday night is fun night for fans as the "Zooperstars" will be in town and performing! It is also the first of three Petr Mrazek bobblehead giveaways this season and a post-game party with the Walleye players to wrap up the night!
