
Solar Bears open lenghty road trip with three wins

The Orlando Solar Bears opened a season-long eight-game road trip with three wins last week, improving to 15-14-5 on the season and giving the South Division the distinction of being the only division in the league that has all of its teams above the .500 mark.
Orlando opened its trip with a 4-2 win at Norfolk on Wednesday. Four different Solar Bears' players tallied goals in the win with Rylan Schwartz (1g-1a) and Eric Faille (2a) posting multi-point efforts. Rob Madore turned aside 39 of 41 Admirals' shots he faced to record the win in goal.
On Friday, both Max Nicastro and Johnny McInnis had two goals and an assist to lead the Solar Bears to a 5-2 victory at Wheeling. Trailing 2-0 after one period, Orlando reeled off the final five goals of the game to take the two points.
The Solar Bears ended the first week of their road trip with a 6-3 win at Wheeling on Saturday. Faille led the way with four points (1g-3a) while Denver Manderson (1g-1a), Brady Vail (1g-1a), Zach Bell (2a) and Nicastro (2a) all chipped in with two points each.
Faille leads Orlando, and is third in the ECHL with 35 points (15g-20a) in 33 games. T.J. Foster is fourth among rookies with 12 goals and is tied for fifth with 29 points while Eric Baier is tied for seventh among defensemen with 22 points (6g-16a).
The Solar Bears continue their road trip this week, visiting Kalamazoo on Tuesday, Fort Wayne on Friday and Indy on Saturday.

Eastern Conference
Reading at Elmira (Friday)
As the season nears its halway point, playoff races are beginning to take shape. Entering the week, the Jackals have possession of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with 40 points, but Reading is right on its heels with 39 points.
Western Conference
Rapid City at Indy (Friday)
Another crucial game for playoff positioning. Indy sits in eighth place of the Western Conference with 36 points, while Rapid City is in ninth with 35 points, and has five games in hand on the Fuel.

- Michael Kirkpatrick is tied for first among rookies with 14 goals.
- The Thunder are fourth with 2.38 goals-against per game.
- Adirondack hosts Norfolk on Tuesday and Reading on Saturday before visiting Elmira on Sunday.
- Jacob MacDonald leads the league with three shorthanded goals.
- Elmira is 12-1-0 when scoring first.
- The Jackals host Norfolk on Thursday, Reading on Friday and Adirondack on Sunday.
- Maxim Kitsyn is fourth with 115 shots on goal.
- The Monarchs lead the league with 34.65 shots per game.
- Manchester hosts Norfolk on Saturday and Sunday.
- Ty Rimmer is third with 610 saves.
- Norfolk is 9-1-0 when leading after two periods.
- The Admirals are at Adirondack on Tuesday, Elmira on Thursday and Manchester on Saturday and Sunday.

- Kalamazoo is 7-2-3 in one-goal games.
- The K-Wings host Orlando on Tuesday and are at Quad City on Friday and Sunday.
- Jeff Lerg is 12-2-0 in his last 14 starts.
- The Walleye are third with 13 road wins (13-6-1).
- Toledo hosts Evansville on Friday and Wheeling on Saturday.
- Anton Zlobin is on a six-game point streak (6g-4a).

- Jordon Southorn had his second three-point game of the season on Friday at Quad City.
- The Komets lead the league on the power play at 24.0 percent (30-for-125).
- Fort Wayne is at Cincinnati on Wednesday and hosts Orlando on Friday and Rapid City on Saturday and Sunday.
- Ben Marshall is second among rookie defensemen with 21 points (5g-16a).
- Indy opens a six-game home stand this weekend.
