Nailers to Welcome Francisco Cervelli on Pirates Night
January 11, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced their new guest for Pittsburgh Pirates Night on Saturday, January 23rd. The Nailers will be joined by catcher Francisco Cervelli.
Cervelli, 29, was traded to the Pirates in November of 2014, after spending parts of
seven seasons with the New York Yankees. The change in uniforms turned out to be an extremely positive move for Francisco, as he was the every day catcher for Pittsburgh, appearing in 130 of the team's 162 regular season games. Furthermore, the Valenica, Velenzuela native led the Pirates in hitting, posting a .295 batting average. He also mixed in seven home runs, 43 RBI, and 56 runs scored. Cervelli's
batting average ranked 15th in the National League, while his .370 on-base percentage was tenth best in the Senior Circuit.
Francisco Cervelli will take part in a VIP pregame party, the ceremonial opening face-off, and will then be available for autographs and pictures during the game on January 23rd, when the Nailers host Kalamazoo at 7:35.
