ECHL Adirondack Thunder

Gameday: Adirondack vs. Norfolk

January 11, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Adirondack Thunder News Release

TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: Tonight is the fifth of ten meetings this season between the Adirondack Thunder and the Norfolk Admirals. The teams have split the previous four meetings, with the most recent coming on December 19th, where the Thunder fell by a 2-1 final in Virginia. Adirondack is coming off a weekend split with the South Carolina Stingrays at the Civic Center and will wrap up their home stand on Saturday night against the Reading Royals. The Admirals come into Tuesday sitting in last place in the Eastern Division with 30 points but are riding a two game winning streak after they swept back-to-back home games with the Cincinnati Cyclones.

FOUR SCORE AND FIVE GAMES IN HAND: With 44 points thus far this season, Adirondack is tied with the Atlanta Gladiators for fourth place in the Eastern Conference and sit just three points behind the Manchester Monarchs for the division lead with five games in hand. A win tonight would put Adirondack one point behind the Monarchs, possibly setting up a battle for first place when the teams face off three straight days later in the month.

CARRIER THE TORCH: Alexandre Carrier has put together a three game point streak, finding his name on the score sheet after each of the first three games on the current home stand. Carrier followed up his goal last Wednesday against Manchester with assists in each game against South Carolina last weekend. The St-Elzear-de-Beauce, Quebec native also has a +2 rating and nine shots on the homestand thus far.

BA-LOU THE BEAR: Louick Marcotte returned to action on Saturday after missing nearly a month of action after he suffered a lower body injury on December 16th against the Elmira Jackals. The rookie forward was held scoreless in his return appearance, but his presence helped contribute to one of Adirondack's strongest periods of the season, with three goals on 20 shots in the middle stanza.

BOUNCE BACK BOYS: The Thunder have shown great resiliency this season, improving their record Saturday to 7-1-1-0 in the games following a loss. The team has earned 15 out of a possible 18 points in games after a defeat for a point percentage of .889, which is among the top marks in the ECHL.

A TIME TO PENALTY KILL: Adirondack's penalty kill unit has been on fire over the past week. Dating back to last Sunday in Reading, the Thunder have killed off each of their last 14 shorthanded situations. With the recent success, the unit is killing off penalties at an 80% clip, with four shorthanded goals, the most recent of which coming on Saturday night when Gunnar Hughes scored to open the second period, shifting the momentum and leading to the win.
