
Thunder to Host Environmental Awareness Fair this Saturday

(Trenton, NJ) - The Trenton Thunder, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, will host the Third Annual EarthShare New Jersey Environmental Awareness Fair at Waterfront Park on Saturday, June 27 from 5:30 PM until 7:05 PM. The Thunder vs. Reading (Double-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies) game that night is scheduled for 7:05 PM with a fireworks display courtesy of the Daily Intelligencer to follow. The Environmental Awareness Fair will feature exhibits and demonstrations from EarthShare NJ member organizations on the "approach" at Waterfront Park. EarthShare member organizations include: American Littoral Society, South Branch Watershed Association, the Wetlands Institute and more. Eco-friendly businesses will also be present to share products and services with fans. The approach is the stone and brick plaza in the front of the stadium, near the two main entrances and ticket windows. "The Thunder are fortunate to be a gathering place for the people of New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania and we appreciate opportunities to create awareness about important issues," said Thunder General Manager Will Smith. "Educating people about the environment and environmentally-friendly products and services is something we are happy to continue with EarthShare NJ for a third year."

EarthShare New Jersey (ESNJ) is celebrating 15 years of supporting and raising funds for qualified environmental charities across the state. ESNJ corporate partners include PhillipsVan Heusen, Wal-Mart, JP Morgan Chase, American Express and many more. The partnership includes awareness programs, volunteer opportunities, and environmental workplace contribution programs/options. ESNJ currently represents 25 local and 38 national environmental organizations.

The Trenton Thunder have made a commitment to use their place in the public eye to raise awareness for environmental issues. This year, the Thunder continued the "Thunder Clean Water Pledge" program done in conjunction with the NJ Department of Environmental Protection for it's third year. This initiative rewarded students for "pledging" to live in a more environmentally sound way.
The Thunder have announced that all kids will eat for free at Waterfront Park all season long. All children with a ticket, ages 12 and under, will receive a voucher upon entering the ballpark good for a free hot dog, bag of potato chips, and a 12 oz. fountain soda at all 71 Thunder home games this season.
The Thunder are the only team in Minor League Baseball history at the Double A Level or below to draw over 400,000 fans for 14 consecutive seasons and have drawn over 6 million in attendance in its 15-year history.
