Chesapeake Baysox News Release

BOWIE, Md. - Baysox left-handed starting pitcher Brian Matusz will play for the United States team for the annual Futures Game on July 12, in St. Louis. Matusz and former Baysox starter Chris Tillman are the only Orioles playing in the Futures Game.

The game features two 25-man rosters representing the United States and the World. The rosters are selected by Major League Baseball, in conjunction with the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau, MLB.com, Baseball America, USA Baseball and the 30 Major League Baseball Clubs. Each major league organization is represented, and the World Team features players from 11 countries and territories. Players from all full-season minor leagues were eligible to participate.

A total of eight Eastern League players were named to the game's rosters. Matusz will be joined by INF Pedro Alvarez (Altoona) on the United States roster. Pitchers Luis Perez (New Hampshire) and Junichi Tazawa (Portland), catchers Carlos Santana (Akron) and Jesus Montero (Trenton) and outfielders Rene Tosoni (New Britain) and Nick Weglarz (Akron) were all named to the World roster.

Matusz has made one start for the Baysox this year, holding the Reading Phillies scoreless through six innings on three hits while striking out 10. In 11 starts with the Frederick Keys earlier this season, Matusz was 4-2 with a 2.16 ERA in 66.2 innings.
