Alvarez Selected to MLB Future All-Star Game

ALTOONA, Pa - Pittsburgh Pirates' top-rated prospect and Altoona Curve third baseman Pedro Alvarez has been selected to play in the MLB Futures Game on July 12 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. He will represent Team USA.

Alvarez, 22, who was promoted to the Altoona Curve on Sunday night and becomes the 11th player in franchise history and the first since 2007 to be named to the club. Alvarez has already displayed remarkable power in his first three games in a Curve uniform. All three of his hits are extra-base hits (two home runs, and one double to compliment 5 RBIs).

With the Lynchburg Hillcats, Alvarez compiled impressive power numbers, belting 14 home runs to go along with 55 RBIs in just 66 games.

Also representing the Pirates' organization in St. Louis will be former Curve hurler Brad Lincoln. Lincoln was recently promoted to Triple-A Indianapolis and recorded his first win for the tribe on Wednesday, tossing 6.1 innings, allowing just one run on two hits on Wednesday. With the Curve, the right-hander compiled a 2.28 ERA in 13 starts while striking out 65 batters in 75.0 innings.
