Aerodynamics...

About Last Night...Trenton claimed a back and forth affair last night, nipping Akron by a final count of 7-6. The Aeros scored the first two runs of the game before the Thunder roared back with five in the fifth, and the long ball then came into play in the late innings. LF Nick Weglarz tied the game at 5-5 for Akron with a two-run homer to right-center, and C Carlos Santana followed with a booming solo shot as the back-to-back blasts gave the Aeros a one-run lead heading to the eighth. The bullpen couldn't shut the door however, as Zach Putnam surrendered the game-tying homer to Edwar Gonzalez in the top of the eighth and Vinnie Pestano allowed the go-ahead home run to Jorge Vazquez in the top of the ninth. Akron had one last shot in the bottom of the ninth as pinch-runner Jerad Head advanced to second with two out, but Santana struck out to end the game.

Saint Nick...Weglarz's two-run homer was hardly the whole story for the big Canadian offensively last night, as the slugger finished 4-5 with two runs scored and three RBI. It was the first four-hit game of the season for Weglarz, and his first such performance since July 5th of last year when he finished 4-4 against Winston-Salem while playing for Class A Kinston. Weglarz has collected hits in 11 of his last 13 games, and at .261 his batting average is at its highest point this season. After admittedly trying to do too much at the plate in the first month of the season, Weglarz is hitting .323 with nine homers and 44 RBI in 47 games since May 1st. On the season, Weglarz leads Akron and is tied for second in the Eastern League with 50 RBI.

Getting Closer...Indians SS Asdrubal Cabrera made his second rehab start yesterday and played all nine innings, finishing 1-5 with a double and a run scored offensively and having an eventful night in the field. Cabrera's evening got off to a rough start with a throwing error in the top of the first inning, but recovered and made a beautiful play in the second, ranging far to his left behind the second base bag and throwing out Trenton's Edwar Gonzalez from shallow center field. Cabrera will serve as the designated hitter today in what could be his final rehab appearance before returning to Cleveland.

Shot Put...RHP Zach Putnam departed yesterday's game with what as termed as right biceps soreness, although it's unclear how long the former fifth-round pick will be out of commission. Putnam entered in the eighth inning and retired the first batter he faced before allowing the tying home run to Gonzalez, and then departed in the middle of an at-bat against Reegie Corona with two on and two out. The injury is the same one that knocked RHP Hector Rondon from a start June 4th at Reading, and while Rondon avoided a stint on the disabled list he skipped his next start and has been on a pitch count since returning.

Did You Know...2B Cristo Arnal finished 2-4 last night, notching his seventh multi-hit game in 28 contests with the Aeros. The native of Caracas, VZ also extended his on-base streak to 14 consecutive games (not counting two pinch-running appearances in which he did not have an at-bat), and has drawn 14 walks while striking out only four times in 84 at-bats this year.
