Stockton Thunder News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, and head coach Matt Thomas announced today that the team has signed rookie center Chris Doyle. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Doyle, 21, was claimed off waivers on Jan. 19 from the South Carolina Stingrays and is expected to make his debut with the Thunder tonight at 7:30 p.m. (1280 KWSX/StocktonThunder.com) at Stockton Arena against the Las Vegas Wranglers. He will wear jersey #23.

"Chris is a proven scorer that will address a need for us by adding offensive potential to our lineup," said Thomas. "We have a tough stretch of our schedule coming up where another offensive player can really help our team be successful during the eight games in ten nights."

Doyle previously skated in 13 games with the Stingrays and scored 11 points (5g-6a) while posting six penalty minutes. He began the season with Augusta in the Southern Professional Hockey League and boasted a total of 31 points (13g-18a) in 18 games.

The 6-foot and 193 pound pivot was selected by the New York Rangers in the fifth round (141st overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and suited up in 255 career major junior games with Prince Edward Island and Victoriaville of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and Mississauga of the Ontario Hockey League, scoring 254 points (106g-148a) and collecting 272 penalty minutes.

Doyle's career high numbers came with Prince Edward Island in 2008-09 when he led the Rocket with 42 assists, ranked second with 72 points and scored 30 goals in 59 games.
