ECHL Announces Fine, Suspension

PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL on Friday announced that Bakersfield's Hans Benson has been suspended for two games and fined an undisclosed amount as a result of his actions in ECHL Game #391, Bakersfield at Utah, on Jan. 19.

Benson was assessed a fighting major and game misconduct - aggressor at 17:14 of the third period. He is suspended one game under Rule #46.21 which states that any player deemed to be the instigator or aggressor of an altercation in the final five (5) minutes of regulation, or at anytime in overtime, shall be automatically suspended from his team's next game. He is also fined and suspended one game under Rule #28 - Supplementary Discipline.

Benson will miss Bakersfield's game at Utah tonight and against Alaska on Jan. 25.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the ECHL and the Professional Hockey Players' Association, player fines collected by the ECHL are given to the PHPA for its ECHL Player's Hardship Fund.
