Faubert's Game-Winner Boosts Chicago to 4-3 Win
January 20, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Chicago Express News Release
Cincinnati, OH - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, snapped a 10-game winless skid on the road, defeating the Cyclones 4-3 at the U.S. Bank Arena on Friday night.
Chicago got the scoring started early, as D Scott Wietecha took a pass from LW Chad Painchaud, and blasted a puck into the back of the net to give the Express a 1-0 lead just 38 seconds into the game. Rookie C Matthew Sisca evened the score at 1-1 when he collected a rebound and slid it past G Peter Mannino at 4:49. Chicago regained the lead when F Anthony Maiani forced a turnover and found LW Devin DiDiomete all alone in front of the net to boost Chicago to a 2-1 lead. RW Chaz Johnson capped off the scoring for the first while on the power play, as he blasted a one-timer into the top right corner of the net. Chicago held the 3-1 lead at the end of the first.
The action and hitting both picked up in the second period, but the Cyclones would strike on a 5-on-3 with just 36 seconds left in the second period as F Mathieu Aubin one-timed a shot into the upper-left corner of the net. The Express led 3-2 after two.
Sisca tallied his second goal of the night 6:39 into the third period after a blocked shot in front of the Chicago net ended up on his stick, and he deflected into the back of the net to tie the game up at 3-3. F Pierre-Luc Faubert picked his team up, however, as a great passing play from Donati and Johnson landed a puck on Faubert's stick, and he slammed into the back of the net with 6:48 left to play, standing as the eventual game-winner. Donati ended the night with three assists for Chicago.
