WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder today released their schedule for the 2006-07 season, their 15th in the CHL.

The Thunder will open the season with a pair of home games, hosting the Tulsa Oilers on Friday, October 20th and the Oklahoma City Blazers on Saturday, October 21st. Opening night is just 74 days away.

The Thunder will play in the Northwest Division again this season along with Oklahoma City, the Colorado Eagles, and the expansion Rocky Mountain Rage. The Thunder will face the Rage eight times this season with the first meeting coming on Friday, November 3rd at the Kansas Coliseum.

The Thunder will face Colorado seven times, Oklahoma City 12 and their other big rival, the Tulsa Oilers, 10 times. Tulsa will play this season in the Northeast Division, along with the Memphis RiverKings, Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs and the Youngstown SteelHounds. Six of the eight Northern Conference teams will qualify for postseason play.

The Thunder will face 13 of the other 16 CHL teams this season, including a pair of games versus the New Mexico Scorpions, who return to the CHL this season in a brand new building, following a one-year hiatus. The Thunder will not face the Austin Ice Bats, Corpus Christi Rayz or the expansion Arizona Sundogs.

The Thunder will play 20 of their 32 home games on either Friday or Saturday, as well as four games on Sundays, including New Year's Eve. Other key dates for the Thunder include Wednesday, November 22nd, the night before Thanksgiving, as well as the night after Christmas, Tuesday, December 26th, which is known as Boxing Day in Canada.

The second annual "Pack the House Night" will take place on Saturday, March 17th versus the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. The Thunder entertained a franchise-record 9,728 fans last season on "Pack the House Night".

Thunder home games will begin at 7:05 p.m. again this season, with Sunday games facing off at 5:05 p.m. Postgame skates with the Thunder players, sponsored by AT&T, will again take place after Sunday home games. Other promotions this season will include the fifth annual Bank of the West Teddy Bear Toss and Sonic Thunderdog's 14th Birthday Party. New promotions will feature a Mr. Potato Head Giveaway, Thunder Magnet Nights and many more.

The 2006 CHL Most Improved Franchise of the Year, the Thunder finished second in the CHL and seventh among 54 "AA" hockey teams for attendance last season, averaging 5,719 fans per game, and expect to surpass that total in 2006-07.
