RiverKings 15th anniversary season schedule announced

August 7, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN --- The Memphis RiverKings and the Central Hockey League today announced the 2006-2007 schedule. The team also announced that it will host two exhibition games with the Wichita Thunder on October 13 and 14 at the DeSoto Civic Center at 7:05 pm.

Just as last season, the schedule will consist of 64 games, 32 at home and 32 on the road. The RiverKings will open the season on October 20 at the DeSoto Civic Center against the Youngstown Steelhounds at 7:05. The two teams will play again the next night at the DCC. Those games will be the first two of 12 meetings with the Steelhounds, the most against any opponent in 2006-2007.

Memphis will be at home for the first five games of the season and, in fact, will spend much of the first two months on home ice. The RiverKings play 17 of their first 23 at home. That schedule will balance itself out in February as the team plays 9 of its 12 games that month away from the DCC. The squad will finish the campaign with three home games on March 20, 23 and 24.

The RiverKings are set to play half, 32 of the 64 games, versus fellow Northeast Division teams. Aside from seeing the Steelhounds 12 times, the RiverKings are set to face the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 11 times and the Tulsa Oilers nine times. It is the first time since the 2003-2004 season that the Mudbugs are not the RiverKings' most common opponent. That season, the RiverKings played the Indianapolis Ice 13 times and the Mudbugs 12.

Breaking down the rest of the schedule, Memphis plays the Oklahoma City Blazers eight times; the defending President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks, Odessa Jackalopes, the expansion Rocky Mountain Rage and the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees three times each; the Colorado Eagles and Corpus Christi Rayz twice and the Austin Ice Bats once. Memphis will not play Amarillo, Arizona, Lubbock or New Mexico. Arizona is an expansion team while New Mexico is returning after a one year hiatus.

All home games will start at 7:05 with a few exceptions. There are three Sunday home games and they will start at 5:05. The Saturday, January 20 game with Odessa is a special 2 pm start time due to the annual Crystal Ball fundraiser for the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi that evening. The next Tuesday, January 23 is the annual Face-Off Field Trip game with the RiverKings hosting Bossier-Shreveport in a 10:05 am face-off.
