SteelHounds Release 2006-07 Schedule
August 7, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Youngstown SteelHounds News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds and General Manager Joe Gregory announced the team's 2006-07 Central Hockey League (CHL) schedule today. The Hounds open the season on the road versus conference foe Memphis, before facing Rocky Mountain, one of the CHL's two expansion teams, in their home opener at the Chevy Centre on October 27th and 28th.
Two six-game home-stands, three Sunday games and a second-half schedule heavy in conference play highlights this year's season. The Hounds will play 19 of their 32 home games after January 19th
The SteelHounds face 16 different opponents with division rivals Memphis (12 games), Bossier-Shreveport (10 games) and Tulsa (six games) occupying the bulk of the 64-game schedule. Included in this year's agenda are match-ups against the CHL's two expansion teams, the Rocky Mountain Rage (four games) and the Arizona Sundogs (two games), and two games versus the New Mexico Scorpions who return to the league after a year of voluntary suspension.
Youngstown plays 28 of its 64 games within the Northeast Division and 45 total games inside the Northern Conference. The SteelHounds play just 19 games against the Southern Conference, including one-game match-ups against Southern Conference members Laredo, Odessa and Lubbock, all three games on the road.
The Hounds play 39 back-to-back games and lace up the skates for three consecutive games on 11 occasions. Last season, the SteelHounds played 25 back-to-back games and had just two three-games-in-three-nights scenarios.
The schedule is balanced month-to-month for the Hounds, starting with four games in October, 12 in November, 12 in December, 12 in January, 11 in February and 13 in March. Eight of the 13 games in March are against conference rivals. The SteelHounds will be on the road seven times in both December and January, and will play eight games at home in March, marking the team's busiest month for home contests. Youngstown plays 36 games after January 1st.
The Hound's longest home stand is a six-game stretch, which falls on the schedule on two separate occasions. The first is in mid November and the second runs from February 8-18. The SteelHounds also host three five-game, one three-game and one two-game home stands.
Youngstown has a season-high eight-game road trip starting at the end of November and lasting through mid December. The trip covers games in five different cities, including two games in Tulsa and two in Oklahoma City. The Hounds also have a six-game, five-game, three three-game, and two two-game road trips.
The busiest day of the week for the Hounds is Saturday, which will see the SteelHounds playing 23 games (11 at home). Not far behind is Friday with 22 games (11 at home). Wednesday and Sunday carry five games each, Tuesday claims two games and Thursday hosts seven games (4 at home).
The SteelHounds will host a special Kid's Day HockeySchool game on Thursday, March 6th versus Oklahoma City. The game, which begins at a special time, 10:30 a.m., caters to Mahoning Valley students.
