Killer Bees announce 2006-07 schedule
August 7, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
Hidalgo, Texas -- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, in conjunction with the Central Hockey League (CHL), today released the 2006-07, 64 game schedule. The Killer Bees will start their fourth season in the CHL on Friday and Saturday, October 20 and 21 when they host the expansion Arizona Sundogs at the Dodge Arena.
All home games, with the exception of Sunday games (4:00 p.m.), will face off at 7:30 p.m.
Killer Bees General Manager Grant Buckborough is confident fans will be excited about the 2006-07 schedule. "The league has done a tremendous job with this year's schedule. Our fans will be pleased to find that 23 of our 32 home games will be played on Friday and Saturday nights with five more games set for Sunday afternoons. With 28 of the team's 32 home dates on weekends, we have an incredibly fan friendly schedule."
The Killer Bees will play 38 of their 64 games against Southeast Division foes, including 12 games against both Austin and Corpus Christi, and 14 versus defending Presidents Cup Champion Laredo. Home and road games will be split evenly among those opponents.
The Killer Bees will play three October home games at the Dodge Arena before traveling to Laredo on Saturday, October 28 for their first road game.
December will be the busiest month for the club, with 14 games packed into 31 days. The team will play four three-games-in-three-nights stretches and two six-in-10 runs in December. They begin another six-in-10 at the end of the month.
The Killer Bees' longest homestand is a five-game run from Jan. 9-20 that is interrupted only by the CHL All Star Break (Jan. 15-18). This year's All Star Game is on January 17 at the CenturyTel Center in Bossier-Shreveport, home of the Mudbugs.
The road schedule sees the Killer Bees visiting new buildings in Arizona (Tuesday, Feb. 20) and New Mexico (Wednesday, Feb. 21) to begin the longest road stretch of the season. The six-game trip also includes stops at Odessa, Austin, Laredo and ends on March 3 at Corpus Christi, although the team will return to the Valley before closing out the final two games of that trip.
Killer Bees season ticket plans are on sale now with packages starting as low as $432. Every season ticket account will receive a free commemorative autographed bottle of the new Killer Bee wine. In addition, the Killer Bees will take part in a Killer Bee Wine Discovery at WineStyles this Thursday, August 10, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Buckborough, Assistant Coach Sean Gillam and forwards Bill Newson and Jason Cirone will be in attendance.
Five different styles of Killer Bee are available, including a Chardonnay, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. WineStyles is located inside the Presidio Shopping Center at North 10th and Martin in North McAllen. Call the Killer Bees at 956-843-7825 or WineStyles at 956-534-2220 for more information.
