(Portland, ME)- Boston Red Sox LHP Jon Lester held the Thunder to one run over six innings and got solid relief pitching from his bullpen to beat the Thunder, 5-2, on Monday night at Hadlock Field. Noah Hall and Matt Carson drove in runs of the Thunder.

Lester (1-0), making a Minor League start before rejoining the Red Sox for a Sept. 2nd start against Baltimore, scattered five hits on the evening with four walks and four strikeouts. Trenton (78-55) got their only run off Lester in the 3rd inning. LF Colin Curtis doubled to start the inning and scored on a single by Hall.

Portland (67-65) jumped on starter Dan McCutchen for two runs in the 1st and 2nd Innings. McCutchen walked his first three batters of the night, before allowing a two-run, two-out single to LF Jay Johnson for a 2-0 Sea Dogs lead. Portland added an RBI double by SS Iggy Suarez and a run-scoring single by DH Jeff Natale in the second for a 4-0 lead. McCutchen (3-2) kept Portland in check after that, but allowed four runs over six innings in the loss.

Trenton cut the deficit to 4-2 in the 8th Inning on a Matt Carson RBI single, but Mike James worked a scoreless 9th Inning to record his 21st save of the season.

The Thunder and Sea Dogs have a 6:00 PM doubleheader on Tuesday. Jeff Marquez (13-9, 3.80) and Jason Jones (8-9, 3.38) will start for Trenton. Portland will counter with Michael Bowden (8-4, 4.27) and Felix Diaz (3-3, 4.93).
