AKRON -- The Akron Aeros looked to move one win closer to clinching the second and final playoff spot in the Eastern League Southern Division playoffs, but could not stop the Bowie Baysox from scoring 14 runs and closing to within four games of the Aeros with eight games remaining on the season.
Akron took a 1-0 lead after the first inning and a 3-1 lead after the second inning. However, Bowie scored five runs in the third and six more in the fourth off of starter Eric DuBose (0-2).
The Aeros did manage to put together some impressive stats at the plate as five hitters recorded two or more hits including Trevor Crowe and Argenis Reyes, who each had three hits in four at-bats and Brandon Pinckney who chipped in four hits in five trips to the plate. Crowe collected a pair of doubles, scored three times and drove in two.
Jordan Brown could not extend his hitting streak to 12-straight, which also ended his streak of 32 straight games reaching base, ranking as the third longest streak in the Eastern League.
Bowie had seven hitters record two or more hits, including one with three and two players with four hits each. The 20 hits allowed by Akron pitchers was a new season high in a game.
The Aeros, in an attempt to not use up their bullpen, allowed outfielder Nathan Panther to pitch the final two innings of the game. He was effective as he held the Baysox scoreless, allowing only one hit and striking out one as he is the only position player all year to pitch in a game.
Akron and Bowie will continue the four-game set on Tuesday, August 28 at 7:05 p.m. at Canal Park. Scott Lewis will take the mound for Akron facing off against Chris Waters.
