Trenton Thunder News Release
Richmond, VA- The Thunder could not stir up a late-game comeback as they fell 4-2 in the rubber game to Richmond on Wednesday afternoon at The Diamond. With the loss, Trenton is now 57-40 on the year.
For the fourth time in six starts at Double-A, RHP Andrew Brackman allowed a run in the first inning, as Nick Noonan scored from third base on a passed ball by Rene Rivera to give the Flying Squirrels a 1-0 lead. Trenton answered back in the top of the second inning with Daniel Brewer and Marcos Vechionacci hitting back-to-back singles to start the inning off RHP David Mixon. Brewer went to third base on Vechionacci's single and scored on a fielder's choice by Jack Rye to tie the game at one.
The game remained tied until the sixth inning, where Rene Rivera connected on a solo home run to center field off Mixon to put Trenton ahead 2-1. It was Rivera's first homer with the Thunder. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Brackman walked Clay Timpner to lead off the inning. After recording the next two outs, Brackman gave up an RBI triple to left-center field by Darren Ford to tie the game at two. Brackman was removed for LHP Wilkins Arias, who threw a wild pitch to the next batter, allowing Ford to score the go-ahead run, and Richmond took a 3-2 lead.
Another triple by Richmond in the bottom of the eighth inning led to an insurance run, as Ryan Lormand hit his second triple of the year off J.B. Cox and was driven in on an RBI single by Ford to put Richmond up 4-2. Rafael Cova retired the side in order in the ninth to end the game.
Trenton finshed the day 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position. For the series, they were just 2-for-24.
Trenton travels to Altoona to begin a four game weekend series with the Curve on Friday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Adam Warren will make his second Double-A start for the Thunder, and the Curve will go with RHP Derek Hankins. Catch all the action on 107.7 FM The Bronc or at www.trentonthunder.com.
