Thunder Drop Middle Game to Altoona

Trenton, NJ - The Thunder bullpen allowed nine walks in the final three innings and Altoona took advantage of three errors as the Curve defeated the Thunder 8-4 on Wednesday night at Waterfront Park. The loss snapped Trenton's eight-game winning streak and the Thunder fell to 39-24 on the season.

Matt Hague put Altoona in front in the first inning with an RBI single to score Gorkys Hernandez, who had doubled with one out. The Curve then took advantage of two Thunder errors in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead. Alex Presley walked, stole second and moved to third on a Brandon Laird error. Miles Durham reached on the Laird error and moved to second on a stolen base. Chase d'Arnaud launched a sacrifice fly to score Presley and Hernandez drove home Durham with a single for a 3-0 Altoona lead. The Curve pushed the lead to 4-0 off RHP Cory Arbiso in the fifth on three hits, including an RBI single for Hector Gimenez.

The Thunder climbed back in the game in the bottom of the sixth off Rudy Owens and Derek Hankins, scoring four runs on three hits, all of which were doubles. With two outs in the inning and the bases loaded Daniel Brewer hit a bases clearing double to left field, cutting Altoona's lead to one. The next batter, Marcos Vechionacci, doubled in Brewer and the teams were tied at four at the end of six innings.

In the seventh and eighth innings, the Thunder bullpen gave up four runs on two hits and walked a combined seven batters, including four straight by RHP Kevin Whelan to give Altoona an 8-4 lead heading into the ninth inning.

The Thunder will wrap up the home-stand on Thursday at 7:05 with post-game fireworks. Trenton will throw RHP Lance Pendleton (4-3, 3.50) against RHP Bryan Morris (3-1, 2.33) for Altoona.
