New Britain Rock Cats News Release
(Game 1) NEW BRITAIN, CT - Harrisburg's Danny Espinosa and Chris Marrero homered to lead the Senators to a 4-1 victory over the Rock Cats in the opening game of Wednesday night's doubleheader.
The Senators took an early lead when Josh Johnson led off the game by lining a base hit into left field and Espinosa followed with a home run - his second in as many games - to center off of Tyler Robertson for the 2-0 advantage. Espinosa finished the night with a game-high three hits and three RBI.
Marrero led off the sixth inning with a shot over the center field wall that put the Senators ahead, 3-0. In the seventh, Espinosa added an RBI double.
The Rock Cats lone run came on an RBI single by Mark Dolenc that scored Erik Lis who had opened the inning with a walk.
Robertson (0-6) is still in search of his first victory of the season despite turning in a solid effort. He scattered seven hits for three runs in six innings.
Jason Jones tossed four shutout innings for the Senators but came away with the no-decision. Adam Carr (5-1) picked up the win as he limited the Rock Cats to two hits and one run through 1 1/3 innings. Zech Zinicola notched his sixth save with a scoreless seventh.
(Game 2) NEW BRITAIN, CT - New Britain handed the ball to Kyle Gibson to salvage the nightcap of Wednesday night's doubleheader, but he struggled from the get-go as Harrisburg went on to down the Rock Cats, 11-6.
Danny Espinosa continued his home run barrage against the Rock Cats with his third-straight home run as many games, this time to give the Senators a 1-0 lead with a one-out solo shot off Gibson in the first inning.
The Rock Cats tied up the game in the bottom of the inning when Joe Benson - who was playing in his first game since returning to New Britain from Single-A Ft. Myers - led off with a double and eventually scored on Juan Portes' sacrifice fly.
The tie didn't last long as the Senators broke out for four runs in the top of the second. Marvin Lowrance and Michael Martinez opened the inning with back-to-back singles. Tim Pahuta and Josh Johnson knocked in a run apiece with doubles. Espinosa added an RBI single to put the Senators on top, 4-1.
Gibson (3-3) was hammered for seven runs on 10 hits through just four innings of work.
Benson (3-for-4) hit a solo home run in the third inning for the Rock Cats. Portes added a two-run double in the fifth and finished with four RBI.
The Senators broke open the game in the seventh - which opened with Rock Cats manager Jeff Smith being ejected from the game for arguing a call from the bottom of the sixth - including a three-run double by Johnson. Johnson finished the night with two doubles and a game-high four RBI. Chris Marrero had a game-high three hits and also scored two runs for the Senators.
Rafael Martin (2-0) picked up the win in relief, allowing three runs on five hits in two innings.
