Senators Sweep Two from New Britain, Winning 4-1 and 11-6

The Harrisburg Senators took two games from the New Britain Rock Cats on Wednesday night in New Britain. The Sens won game one 4-1 and game two 11-6.

In game one, Danny Espinosa hit a two-run home run in the first inning giving the Sens a 2-0 lead right off the bat. Chris Marrero homered in the sixth giving the Sens a 3-0 lead. New Britain scored a run in the last of the sixth on a single off the bat of Mark Dolenc trimming the lead to 3-1. Josh Johnson led the seventh off reaching on a two-base error and scored on a double by Espinosa.

Espinosa had three hits in game one and three runs driven in. Chris Marrero chipped in with two hits. Jason Jones started and pitched four innings allowing just two hits and striking out three. Adam Carr pitched 1.1 innings in relief for the win and Zech Zinicola pitched out of a jam in the seventh to earn his sixth save of the season.

Game two was a slugfest with the Sens winning 11-6. Harrisburg had two different four-run innings, the second and seventh.

Espinosa homered in the first, his third straight game with a home run. Harrisburg scored four runs in the second, taking a 5-2 lead after the Rock Cats scored twice in the first. After taking a 7-2 lead, the Sens withstood a rally from New Britain as Joe Benson homered and Juan Portes a three-run double.

With the score 7-6 in the seventh, the Sens broke the game open. Martinez singled driving in Jesus Valdez then Josh Johnson doubled with the bases loaded driving in all three runs to break the game open. Johnson had four RBIs and Tim Pahuta had three on two doubles. Marrero had three hits and Espinosa, Martinez, Johnson and Pahuta all had two.

Chuck James made his first post-no hitter start and went four innings allowing three runs. Rafael Martin pitched two innings earning the win even with allowing three runs.

The Sens are now 32-34 and look for a series sweep on Thursday night.
