Mahoney Transferred To Staten Island, Cusick Returns To Trenton

(TRENTON, NJ) The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees announced today that INF Kevin Mahoney has been transferred to Short-Season Staten Island, and that they have received INF Matt Cusick from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Mahoney, 23, was promoted to the Trenton roster on May 20, and hit .267 for the Thunder in six games played. On the season, Mahoney is hitting a combined .300 in nine games with Trenton and High-A Tampa. Mahoney was selected by the Yankees in the 23rd round of the 2009 June Draft out of Canisius College.

Cusick, 24, was hitting .265 with 9 RBI in 29 games for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before being transferred to the Thunder roster. In 2009 with the Thunder, Cusick batted .240 with 9 RBI in 28 games. Overall, Cusick hit a combined .291 between Trenton and High-A Tampa in 2009. He was acquired by the Yankees from the Astros on July 30, 2008 in exchange for RHP LaTroy Hawkins and cash considerations.

The Thunder play the middle game of the three game series with the Altoona Curve on Wednesday night, with a first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM at Waterfront Park. The Thunder will have LHP Wilkin de la Rosa (2-2, 5.18) throw agianst LHP Rudy Owens (6-3, 2.79) for Altoona.
