Thunder Down Binghamton for Seventh Straight Win

Trenton, NJ - Timely hitting in the seventh inning and effective pitching out of the bullpen helped the Thunder capture their seventh straight win, as they defeated the Binghamton Mets 5-2 on Thursday night at Waterfront Park. With the win, Trenton improves to 18-15 on the season.

Trenton was able to get to Mets RHP Eddie Kunz early in the first inning. Austin Krum hit a single to center field with one out, and David Adams drove him around to score on an RBI double to right center field, and give the Thunder a 1-0 lead.

Binghamton took advantage of a wild David Phelps , and were able to tie it up in the third and take the lead in the fourth. Between both innings, the Mets would score two runs on two hits. Both runs reached base on walks given up by Phelps, and Binghamton had a 2-1 lead. The Thunder struck back in the bottom half of the fourth, as Austin Krum came around to score on a groundout by Austin Romine.

David Phelps was lifted after four innings of work. He gave up two runs on three hits and walked four batters.

The Thunder scored three runs on three hits in the bottom of the seventh to take a 5-2 lead. With one out and runners at second and third base, Binghamton RHP Clint Everts intentionally walked Austin Krum to load the bases for David Adams. The Trenton second baseman hit a hard ground ball to score Vechionacci, and it put the Thunder in front 3-2. After a walk to Austin Romine, Brandon Laird lined a two-run single to right field, scoring Luis Nunez and Krum to make the score 5-2 in favor of Trenton.

Wilkins Arias pitched two innings in relief and struck out four batters. Noel Castillo (2-2) pitched the seventh inning and allowed just one hit. Eric Wordekemper worked the final two innings to pick up his third save of the season.

The Thunder continue the series with the Binghamton Mets on Friday at 7:05 PM. RHP Lance Pendleton will start for the Thunder, while Binghamton gives the ball to RHP Dylan Owen.
