New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH - Adam Calderone belted two of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats' three home runs, and Bobby Bell allowed two runs over a season-high seven innings to post his third win as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats beat the Portland Sea Dogs, 9-2, on Thursday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.
The Fisher Cats (22-12) used the long ball in the bottom of the first inning to grab a 3-0 lead. Calderone (2-for-5, 2 HR, 3 RBI) crushed the first of his two homers, his fourth, before Brad Emaus (1-for-3, HR, 2 BB, 2 RBI, 2 R) followed with his fourth homer, a two-run shot to right-center off losing pitcher Ryne Miller.
New Hampshire would strike for four more runs against Miller in the fourth. Brian Jeroloman (1-for-2, RBI, 2 BB) had an RBI single, Darin Mastroianni (1-for-5, RBI, R, 2 SB) drove in a run with a fielder's choice grounder and Calderone put the game away with his second homer of the night, and fifth of the season, a two-run bomb to right for a 7-0 lead.
Portland (19-13) avoided the shutout when Che-Hsuan Lin (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) connected for a two-out, two-run home run off Bell in the fifth that landed in the Poultry Products Dinner in the Den, trimming New Hampshire's lead to 7-2.
Bell (3-2) yielded two runs on six hits, with four strikeouts and one walk to win for the first time since April 22.
Trystan Magnuson and Vince Bongiovanni each pitched a shutout inning of relief for the Fisher Cats, who won their third consecutive game.
Miller fell to 1 and 3 after allowing seven runs on nine hits in four innings. The right-hander walked three.
In the seventh, David Cooper (1-for-4, 2B, RBI, R) had an RBI double off Robert Coello, who allowed Cooper to later score on a wild pitch.
New Hampshire sends left-hander Luis Perez (3-2, 3.08) to the mound on Friday night at 7:05pm against Portland right-hander Kyle Weiland (0-2, 5.48). Fisher Cats Pre-Game begins at 6:45pm with Mike Murphy and Bob Lipman on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.
