Altoona Curve News Release

Richmond, VA - For the first time since April 27, the Altoona Curve are no longer in first place as the Richmond Flying Squirrels (AA - San Francisco) now own the top spot in the Eastern League Western Division as they claimed it with a 4-2 win over Altoona on Thursday night at The Diamond.

The Curve actually jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the contest, as Chase d'Arnaud scored on an RBI single by Matt Hague in the first inning to put the Curve up 1-0. d'Arnaud would then plate a run of his own, hustling to beat out a ground ball for an infield single which allowed Alex Presley to score all the way from second base to give the Curve a 2-0 edge in the top of the fifth.

The lead would evaporate in the bottom of the fifth as the Squirrels (21-13) would send nine men to the plate against starter Tim Alderson. Alderson walked two and surrendered four hits in the stanza. He was lifted after securing only two outs.

Altoona (20-13) would be held hitless from the fifth inning until two outs in the ninth, when Josh Harrison and Miles Durham would rally the Curve to a potential comeback with back-to-back singles. The go-ahead run would come to the plate, but Richmond's Jake Stephens would enter the game and induce a flyout to left field off the bat of Presley to end the game and earn the save.

The Altoona Curve and Flying Squirrels will lock horns in the second game of the series on Friday at 7:05 p.m. Altoona will send LHP Rudy Owens (3-1, 3.74) to the bump as Richmond will oppose with LHP Craig Clark (1-2, 4.76). Air time on flagship radio station ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and Altoona Curve Radio Network affiliates is 6:35 p.m.

With the loss, ticket prices will remain the same for Wednesday's 6:30 p.m. home game against Akron. As part of the team's "Road to Savings" program, each win the Curve secure during their four-game road stint in Richmond, the Curve will reduce all ticket prices in the ballpark $1 per road victory.
