Schmidt, Gorecki Transferred to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre; Two Players Sent Back to Trenton

(TRENTON NJ) The Trenton Thunder, Double A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced today that they have transferred RHP Josh Schmidt and OF Reid Gorecki to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Additionally, INF Justin Snyder and RHP Noel Castillo have both been placed back on the Trenton roster.

Schmidt, 27, was promoted to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on May 10, and pitched three innings in a game for the SWB Yankees before being transferred back to Trenton on May 11. He is 1-0 with a 0.98 ERA in 13 games for the Thunder in 2010.

Gorecki, 30, is hitting .257 with 2 HR, 15 RBI and 8 SB in 29 games for the Thunder. In 2009, Gorecki spent the season with the Atlanta Braves organization, hitting .286 with 9 HR, 49 RBI and 14 SB with Triple-A Gwinnett. Gorecki also spent 31 games on the Braves roster, batting .200 with 6 runs and 3 RBI for Atlanta. The Queens, NY native initially broke camp with Triple-A Scranton, but was transferred to the Trenton roster prior to Opening Day.

In other moves impacting Trenton, INF Justin Snyder and RHP Noel Castillo were both transferred back to Trenton.

Snyder, 24, was sent to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on May 8, and played in two games for the SWB Yankees where he combined to go 2-for-6 with an RBI. The El Cajon, CA resident is 6-for-22 in eight games played for Trenton in 2010.

Castillo, 26, has pitched 12 games out of the Thunder bullpen in 2010, going 1-2 with a 7.30 ERA. He has held hitters to a .143 batting average. Castillo was transferred to the Scranton roster yesterday, but did not see action in the game on 5/12. In 2009, Castillo went a combined 3-2 with a 3.92 ERA in 37 combined appearances with Single-A Tampa and Trenton.

The Thunder return to Waterfront Park on Thursday at 7:05 PM to open up a four game series with the Binghamton Mets. RHP David Phelps (3-0, 1.21) starts for the Thunder, while the Mets start RHP Eddie Kunz (3-2, 6.99).
