Wichita Thunder News Release
WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder today announced their schedule for the 2004-05 season, their 13th in the 17-team Central Hockey League (CHL).
The Thunder will begin the season at their newest and closest rival, the Topeka Tarantulas, on Friday, October 22nd. The Thunder will open their home schedule at the Kansas Coliseum the following night, hosting the New Mexico Scorpions at 7:30 p.m.
Wichita will host 25 of their 30 games on weekends, including 10 Saturday evening contests. The Thunder will play seven of their first 11 games at home and will also enjoy a six-game homestand in March, before finishing up with a pair of road games.
"We are very grateful to Steve Cherwonak at the CHL office and John Nath at the Kansas Coliseum", said Thunder general manager David Holt. "This is one of the most balanced and fan-friendly schedules we have ever had."
The Thunder will play in the Northwest Division again this season, along with Topeka, New Mexico and the Colorado Eagles. The Thunder will play 27 of their 60 games versus their three biggest rivals, including 11 meetings with Topeka, nine with the Tulsa Oilers and seven with the Oklahoma City Blazers.
Wichita will host 12 different teams at the Kansas Coliseum this season including the Corpus Christi Rayz, the defending CHL Champion Laredo Bucks and for the first time ever, the Austin Ice Bats. The Thunder will play every team in the CHL at least once this season, with the exception of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. Other highlights to the schedule include home games on both New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
Thunder season ticketholders will get an added bonus in their package again this year, a free ticket for every seat purchased to a select road game in Topeka, Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Season tickets for the 2004-05 season are still on sale, starting at just $168.
CHL teams will open training camp in just 76 days, on Monday, October 11th and the Thunder will host Topeka in an exhibition game on Sunday, October 17th at Ice Sports Wichita. The Thunder currently have nine players signed for the upcoming season, including veteran forwards Travis Clayton and Jason Duda.
