Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, Texas â The 2004 CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks and the Central Hockey League have released the home and road schedule, including opponents, for the upcoming 2004-05 regular season. Laredo will begin defense of their President's Cup title on the road in San Angelo on Friday, October 22nd. The Bucks home opener at the LEC is set for Saturday, October 23rd against the Corpus Christi Rayz. The Bucks will raise the 2003-04 CHL President's Cup championship banner that night.
"I know the process of putting a schedule together is very difficult. It is a tough job and you can't please everyone," said Bucks head coach Terry Ruskowski. "Our league office is very good to work with. They try to be as accommodating as possible. I think our schedule is pretty fair and I have no problem with it."
The Bucks will play 34 games inside the Southeast division. Laredo will play 12 games against Corpus Christi, six at home and six on the road. The Bucks will play 11 games each against the Austin Ice Bats and Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. Against the Bats, Laredo will play six at home and five on the road, while against the Killer Bees the Bucks will host five and travel for six games.
The Bucks first game at home against Austin is scheduled for Saturday, November 6th. The Bucks first host Rio Grande Valley on Tuesday, December 14th.
Laredo will participate in the first event at the new AmericanBank Center in Corpus Christi on Friday, November 5th.
Laredo will travel to Austin for the first time on Sunday, October 24th. The Bucks first game at the Dodge Arena against the Killer Bees will be on Friday, October 29th.
For the first time in franchise history the Bucks schedule includes a game against every team in the CHL. Several of the out of division match ups will be against the premier teams in the CHL.
The Bucks will host the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs at the LEC in a rematch of the 2004 CHL President's Cup Finals on Veterans Day, Thursday, November 11th. The Bucks will travel to Louisiana on Friday, January 28th for a game at home of the Mudbugs, the CenturyTel Center, to complete the season series between the teams.
Laredo will host the Colorado Eagles in the only match up of the year between the teams on Saturday, January 15th.
A large part of the minor league hockey season is spent on the road and the Bucks will have four long road trips this season. Laredo will play games in Lubbock, San Angelo and Odessa to complete a three-in-three weekend December 2nd-4th. The distance traveled is 1,381 miles round trip.
The Bucks will travel to Bossier-Shreveport on January 28th and then Memphis the next night, for a total of 1,818 miles round trip.
Laredo will go to Odessa on February 19th and then Amarillo the next night, a round trip of 1,429 miles.
The Bucks longest trip of the year, both in duration and distance, will be late in the season when they travel to Tulsa on March 4th, Topeka on March 5th, Wichita on March 7th, Oklahoma City on March 8th, and Corpus Christi on March 11th. The trip will total five games and 2,132 miles.
Five times this season the Bucks will play three games in three nights, a staple of minor league hockey.
Three times this year the Bucks will play back-to-back games at home on a Friday and Saturday night; November 26th-27th, December 10th-11th, & February 4th-5th.
Laredo will have a pair of 11 a.m. matinee games, on Tuesday, November 16th against Austin and on Wednesday, January 26th also against the Ice Bats.
The Bucks will host 30 CHL regular season games at the Laredo Entertainment Center during the upcoming season. The CHL has moved the start of the 60-game season back one week to better accommodate scheduling purposes. The regular season will span from late October to the third week of March with the CHL playoffs to follow.
This year's Bucks schedule is loaded with weekend dates, 20 of the 30 home games will be played either on a Friday or Saturday. There are four Tuesday games, four Wednesday games, one Thursday and one Sunday game on the schedule.
The Bucks also have announced a change in the starting times for games. Tuesday-Thursday games will begin a half hour earlier at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday games will be played at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday games will take place at 2 p.m.
