Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
Fort Worth-Hockey fans in Fort Worth can mark their calendars. The 2004-2005 schedule for the Fort Worth Brahmas was officially released by the Central Hockey League office this afternoon. The Brahmas will begin their fourth season in the CHL on Friday, October 22 at the Century Tel Center in Bossier City, Louisiana against their I-20 rivals, the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. After three road games to start the season, the Brahmas will host their home opener at the Fort Worth Convention Center on Saturday, October 30, at 7:30 PM against the Mudbugs.
This season, the Brahmas will play a 60 game schedule. The schedule will be split evenly, with 30 games being played on home ice, and 30 games being played on the road. Twenty-seven of the Brahmas' 30 home games this season will be played at their primary arena, the Fort Worth Convention Center. The Brahmas will play three home games this season at the venerable Will Rogers Memorial Center in March of 2005. On Friday, March 4, the Oklahoma City Blazers will come to the "Will." On Saturday, March 5, the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs will be the Brahmas' guest at Will Rogers. Then on Sunday, March 6, Fort Worth will close out their three game set at the historic arena with an afternoon game against the Austin Ice Bats.
All Monday through Saturday Brahmas' home games will begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday home games are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. The only different start time will be on Tuesday, December 14, 2004 when the Brahmas will take on Bossier-Shreveport at 10:30 a.m. That game will be the Brahmas' second annual "Cool School" game, a special school day contest scheduled to allow an entire grade level of students from the Fort Worth ISD to come out and enjoy the game. Last season, over 6,500 Fort Worth ISD fourth grade students were in attendance for the Brahmas "Cool School" game on Tuesday, January 13, 2004.
As usual, a significant portion of the Brahmas games this season will be played against their divisional opponents. Fort Worth will play their four Northeast Division foesâBossier-Shreveport, Tulsa, Oklahoma City, and Memphisâa total of 28 times. Bossier-Shreveport is the most frequent opponent on Fort Worth's schedule, as the Brahmas will tackle the âBugs ten times this season (5H/5A). The Brahmas will battle the Oilers (2H/4A), Blazers (4H/2A) and RiverKings (3H/3A) six times apiece.
The Brahmas will have seven games this year against their chief I-35 rival, the Austin Ice Bats. Austin will come to Cowtown for four games. The Brahmas will make the trip down south to Austin on three occasions. The first time that the Brahmas and Bats play this season will be on Friday, November 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
The only CHL team that will not come to Fort Worth this season is the Amarillo Gorillas. The Brahmas will travel to every CHL city this year except Lubbock, Texas, the home of the Cotton Kings.
Fort Worth will face off against the defending CHL champion Laredo Bucks two times this season, on December 11, 2004 at the Laredo Entertainment Center and on March 18, 2005 at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
The Brahmas' home dates will once again be concentrated on the weekend. Of the scheduled 30 home games, 24 of them will be either on a Friday (8), Saturday (10), or Sunday (6). Fort Worth will play five home games on Tuesday nights and the one home game on a Thursday morning. The Brahmas will not be in action in Fort Worth on both Monday and Wednesday.
The Brahmas longest homestand of the season will be from Saturday, October 30 until Tuesday, November 16 when they play seven consecutive games on home ice. Fort Worth's longest extended stretch away from home will be from Tuesday, January 18, 2005 until Friday, February 11, 2005 when they play nine games in a row on the road.
Fort Worth will prep for its eighth season in franchise history with two exhibition games against the Oklahoma City Blazers. On Friday, October 15, 2004, the Brahmas will face the Blazers at 7:35 p.m. at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City. On Saturday, October 16, 2004, the Blazers will play the Brahmas in the metroplex at a location and time to be determined.
