Ice Bats Release Schedule
July 27, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Austin Ice Bats News Release
The Austin Ice Bats of the Central Hockey League today released the team's game schedule for the upcoming 2004-'05 season. The team's 60-game regular season schedule includes 30 home dates at the Travis County Expo Center. (A complete version of the schedule is attached to this release).
The Ice Bats will begin their ninth season of play with a bang in October. During the three-day "Opening Weekend," the Ice Bats will host each of their three divisional opponents. The Ice Bats will open the season on Friday, October 22nd against the Corpus Christi Rayz. Rio Grande Valley will visit the Bat Cave the following night, and defending President's Cup champion Laredo will close out the weekend on Sunday, October 24th. Just over half, 31 of the team's 60 games will be played against their Southeast Division rivals.
Of the team's 30 home games, 11 will take place on Friday nights and 10 on Saturday nights. The Ice Bats will use those dates to expand on last season's wildly successful concert series. The series of three post-game concerts culminated with an appearance from "Los Lonely Boys" and a franchise record 8,316 fans in attendance last February 28th. This year's lineup of concerts, promotions and giveaways will be announced in the coming weeks.
The schedule also includes several other new features, including new start times. Normal weekday and Saturday games will start at 7:35pm, and Sunday games at 4:00pm. A "Kids Day" game at 11:00am on February 8th, and a 7:35pm New Year's Day game have also been scheduled.
"We're looking forward to an exciting season, with more entertainment value for our fans than ever before," said Ice Bats President Jeff Buch. "We'll set the tone with a three-day weekend to begin the schedule, then build the momentum with the concert series and the other promotions we're planning. On and off the ice, this season promises to be as entertaining for our fans as any we've had."
"I think this season will be extremely competitive," said Jeff Greenlaw, Ice Bats Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations. "Literally any of the 17 teams in our league is capable of winning it all, and our division will be a battle every night. That's going to make every single game exciting for our fans." "The team we're putting together will compete hard every night," Greenlaw said. "We're looking forward to getting the season started."
Season tickets and corporate partnerships are currently available for the upcoming season. Once again, free Belfry Club membership is included with all full-season packages, and free parking with all full-season and 16-game ticket plans.
In addition, the team's "RollerBats Asphalt Assault Tour" continues this weekend, with the latest in a series of free youth in-line hockey clinics. This weekend's clinic takes place from 10am to noon on Saturday, July 31st, at the Academy Sports and Outdoors location at IH-35 and E. William Cannon. The clinic is open to all children ages 6-13, accompanied by a parent or guardian. Ice Bats players and coaches provide free skills and safety demonstrations, in-line scrimmages and autographs.
Fans may call the Ice Bats ticket office at (512) 927-PUCK, or log onto the team's website at www.icebats.com for more information.
