Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
Corpus Christi, Texas â The Corpus Christi Rayz will begin their seventh professional hockey season in Austin, TX against their Southeast Division rivals, the Austin Ice Bats on October 22nd at 7:35pm, the Rayz and the Central Hockey League announced as part of the 2004-05 CHL regular season schedule. The 60-game schedule has the Rayz playing 30 games in Corpus Christi and 30 games on the road. During the season, the Rayz will travel to six states and 13 cities over five months.
The Rayz will open the season with a season-high, four game road trip that will take the team through Austin, Laredo, New Mexico and Colorado, before returning to Corpus Christi On November 5th for their home opener and the first event ever at the brand new AmericanBank Center against the defending President's Cup Champion, Laredo Bucks at 7:05pm. Two weeks prior, on October 23rd, the Rayz will be the first team to visit the Bucks for their home opener. The Rayz will play the Bucks 12 times in the 2004-05 season, more than any other opponent.
The Rayz will host the New Mexico Scorpions once this season, in the battle of the two CHL teams owned by Doug Frank. The Scorpions will come to Corpus Christi on February 20th, closing out a season-long, five game homestand beginning on Febuary 11th. During that time, the Rayz will host Laredo, Amarillo, Lubbock, Wichita and New Mexico. The Rayz home schedule is highlighted by holiday games on New Years Eve (vs. Austin 7:05pm) and St. Patrick's Day (Rio Grande Valley, 7:05pm), and the regular season finale against Austin on Saturday, March 19th at 7:05pm. Fans should be happy with the home schedule with 25 of the Rayz' 30 home games being played on Friday through Sunday and 46 overall games coming on those days.
Corpus Christi will play 14 of the 16 other CHL teams. The only teams the Rayz will not face-off against are the Tulsa Oilers and the newly relocated Topeka Tarantulas. Of the Rayz' 14 opponents, all of them visit the AmericanBank Center at least once, and the Rayz travel to each city except Memphis. The Rayz will play 33 total games against Southwest Division opponents and 46 games against the Southern Conference. Most Rayz home games will begin at 7:05pm on Monday â Saturday and 5:05pm on Sunday. The two exceptions will come on Wednesday, November 17th when the Rayz will have a special 11:05am start time and Saturday, December 18th versus Laredo, when the game will begin at 8:05pm.
