New Mexico Scorpions News Release
ALBUQUERQUE â The New Mexico Scorpions of the Central Hockey League announced the team's 60-game schedule for the 2004-05 regular season today. After two road games, the Scorpions open their ninth season of hockey at Tingley Coliseum on Friday, Oct. 29 against the Corpus Christi Rayz. To complete the weekend's festivities, the Scorpions will host the Memphis RiverKings on Saturday, Oct. 30. The regular season opens on Friday, Oct. 22 at Tulsa.
In a new twist, the Scorpions will host five sets of back-to-back Friday and Saturday night games against the same team at Tingley Coliseum, beginning Thanksgiving weekend Nov. 26 and 27 against the Odessa Jackalopes.
"Back-to-back games against the same team really bring a different kind of intensity," said President/CEO W.D. "Doug" Frank, "and we're hoping that intensity carries over to our fans. One team is always unhappy after the first game, which sets the stage for a high-powered game the next night."
Like last year, the Scorpions' home schedule features 11 Friday home games and ten Saturday night home dates with three Sunday afternoon home dates, meaning 80 percent of all home games will be played on the weekend. The Scorpions are also planning four holiday games â Wednesday, Nov. 24, Wednesday, Dec. 22, Tuesday, Dec. 28 and Monday, Jan. 17. The Martin Luther King Day game will be a 2:05 p.m. matinee. The special School Day game will return for the second straight season on Tuesday, Feb. 8 when Lubbock is in town for an 11:05 a.m. faceoff. Details for the game will be announced later this summer.
"We're happy to be able to announce our schedule for the 2004-05 season," said Scorpions Senior Vice President/General Manager Geoff Kent. "Our fans will get to enjoy our usual great rivalries against teams like Colorado, Amarillo and Wichita while getting to see most of the CHL this season. Our staff is already working hard to formulate our promotional calendar for the season, and I think our fans will like what they see."
The Scorpions are set to play archrival Colorado the most of any team this coming season. The Scorpions look forward to playing I-40 rival Amarillo seven times, with six meetings planned against Southwest Division teams Lubbock and San Angelo. The slate will see New Mexico battle Northwest Division rivals Topeka and Wichita four times each, with four games also scheduled against Memphis. The Scorpions will face every CHL team this season, as Rio Grande Valley makes their first-ever appearance at Tingley Coliseum on Nov. 14.
Season tickets for the 2004-2005 CHL season start as low as $320, and are on sale NOW. Single-game tickets are expected to go on sale in early October. For more information, call the Scorpions office at (505) 881-PUCK (7825).
