Sad Note for the Austin Ice Bats Professional Hockey
June 2, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Austin Ice Bats News Release
Even though we have spent exhaustive efforts for the past year to find a venue for the Austin ICE BATS to play in 2008-2009, we have been unsuccessful in locating an acceptable venue. We are therefore announcing that the Austin ICE BATS will be going âLights Out' for the upcoming hockey season.
There are several very interesting venues that are being explored but there is just not enough time to put together the resources to be able to play in 2008-2009. We will continue to explore different venues both in the Austin area as well as outside the area to play in the 2009-2010 season.
It truly saddens us all in the ICE BATS organization to make this announcement after twelve (12) years of providing professional hockey to the Austin area. We are very much a part of this community and have every intention of playing in this area in the future. We thought we would have this opportunity in Cedar Park but after five (5) years of working with the city officials, we found that we did not meet their standard. This was truly the blow that caused the ICE BATS to make this decision to move on to find a new home.
We want to thank all of our true fans and supporters over the past years and look forward to sending out the notice when we come back in a new hockey venue. We hope to work with local governments to try to find an acceptable place to play. We will continue to office in the Austin area and work to make a strong come back.
