Chicago Wolves News Release

Chicago Wolves right wing DARREN HAYDAR and rookie left wing BRETT STERLING have been named to the 2006-07 American Hockey League First All-Star team. In addition, defenseman NATHAN OYSTRICK has been selected to the AHL Second All-Star team, marking the fourth time in franchise history Chicago has had three or more players garner All-Star honors in a single regular season.

HAYDAR leads the AHL with a 73 assists and 111 points - both career-highs - and ranks fourth with a career-best 38 goals and 16 power-play markers in 68 games this season. The 27-year-old forward made history earlier this year with a stretch that saw him record at least one point 39 consecutive games (Oct. 7 - Jan. 6), a mark that tied Wayne Gretzky's 1985-86 run with the Edmonton Oilers (NHL) as the fourth longest streak in professional hockey history. He posted 79 points (24G, 55A) during his historic run, which is both an AHL and franchise record.

The Toronto native recorded a goal for the Canadian All-Star Team in the 2007 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Game and has notched a point in 59 of his 68 outings with the Wolves this season, which includes 33 multiple-point performances. He is just the third player in franchise history to break the 100-point mark, and the first since the 1998-99 season. HAYDAR also set a club record when he tallied an assist in 14 consecutive contests from Nov. 4 to Dec. 8, notching 23 during that time.

STERLING leads the AHL with 52 goals, and is just the fifth rookie in league history and the third player in the 13-year existence of the franchise to hit the 50-goal plateau. The 22-year-old forward, who was named to the AHL's 2007 All-Rookie Team yesterday, was the MVP of the 2007 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Game and earned back-to-back AHL Rookie of the Month honors in November and December. STERLING leads the league with 21 power-play markers and shares second overall behind HAYDAR with 93 points in 72 outings. The Los Angeles native has already established franchise records for a first-year pro in both goals and overall scoring. He also set a club record by posting a marker in nine consecutive games from Dec. 12 to Dec. 29.

OYSTRICK, who was also named to the All-Rookie Team yesterday, leads all first-year defensemen and ranks third overall among league blueliners with 44 points. The Regina, Saskatchewan, native has appeared in all 75 of Chicago's matchups this season, tied for the most by an AHL player this year.

Atlanta's seventh choice, 198th overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, OYSTRICK leads AHL rookie blueliners with 14 goals, the most by a first-year defenseman in club history. The 24-year-old's nine power-play markers lead rookie rearguards and hold second overall among AHL defensemen.
