
Bulldogs Upended by Crunch

HAMILTON, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs suffered their worst loss of the season on Thursday night, dropping a 5-1 decision to the Syracuse Crunch at Copps Coliseum. Until tonight, the 'Dogs hadn't lost a game by more than three goals all season long. With the loss, the Bulldogs record drops to 40-26-3-5 through 74 games this season.
The teams exchanged goals in a span of 1:19 in the first period. Andrew Murray opened the scoring for the Crunch at the 1:46 mark when he curled in from the right face-off circle and beat 'Dogs goalkeeper Yann Danis with a shot to the blocker side. Eric Manlow quickly replied for the Bulldogs when he chipped in a rebound at 3:05 of the frame. Cory Urquhart and Duncan Milroy earned assists on Manlow's fourth goal of the campaign.
Syracuse tallied three more first-period goals to take a 4-1 lead. Curtis Glencross put the Crunch up 2-1 at 9:26, followed by Murray's second goal of the game at the 15:01 mark on the power play. Then Glencross scored again with only 1:01 left in the opening frame to give Syracuse a three-goal lead.
Philippe Sauve replaced Danis between the pipes for the Bulldogs to start the second period.
After a scoreless second period, Olivier Labelle padded the Crunch lead on the power play at 4:33 of the third frame with his ninth goal of the season. Ryan Caldwell and Tomas Kloucek assisted on the goal that rounded out the scoring at 5-1.
Hamilton was 0-for-8 on the power play, while Syracuse went 2-for-6 with the extra-man.
Bulldogs starting netminder Yann Danis suffered the loss with 8 saves on 12 shots while Philippe Sauve made 11 saves on 12 shots in a relief appearance. Crunch goaltender Joel Martin made 33 saves on 34 shots and picked up the win.
The Bulldogs next game is on Friday, April 6th at 7:35 p.m. when travel to Rochester to battle the Americans at Blue Cross Arena.
