Sacramento Republic FC News Release
The boys in Old Glory Red faced a midweek matchup in the mountains against fellow Western Conference opponent, Real Monarchs.
The hosts claimed all three points following a 2-0 result with Milan Iloski bagging a brace.
Despite the result, Sacramento put up a fight and will be looking to return to winning ways when SRFC visit Oakland Roots SC on June 19.
Close But No Cigar
On the night, Republic FC managed to create more scoring chances than the hosts despite not being able to find the back of the net.
Sacramento's eight scoring chances bested Monarch's seven with seven different SRFC players credited with creating opportunities.
The Indomitable Club's Dariusz Formella led the team with two chances created and the Polish playmaker was tied - alongside Pete Pennanen - for the most shots taken against Monarchs on the team with three.
Republic FC also out possessed Monarchs - 63% to 37% - and had five different players log 60 or more touches while the Salt Lake City club had just one player with 60 or more touches.
Academy Duo Earn First Starts
A pair of former Republic FC Academy players made their first starts for the club this season.
Midfielder Rafael Jauregui saw his name in the starting eleven for the first time this season after becoming the youngest player in club history to make an appearance and start for the first team a year ago. Jauregui logged 74 minutes against Real Monarchs on Wednesday.
Defender Nabi Kibunguchy also earned the starting nod - his first-ever professional start of his young career. Nabi played 63 minutes and created one scoring chance on the night.
Mighty Mitch
Republic FC's Mitchell Taintor covered a lot of ground on Wednesday night.
The defender led team defensively in total aerial duels (4), clearances (3) and interceptions (2). He also added one tackle and gained possession seven times.
Offensively, Taintor also made positive contributions by leading his side in both passes (69) and successful passes (60). His 78 touches were also tied for the most on the squad on Wednesdy night.
