Phoenix's Santi Moar Voted Championship's Player of the Month
June 10, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL) News Release
TAMPA, Fla. - Phoenix Rising FC forward Santi Moar has been voted the USL Championship's Player of the Month for April and May after recording five goals and two assists in his side's first five games of the 2021 USL Championship season. Moar found the net in each of the club's first five games of the campaign as the club won four out of five games to quickly move to the top of the Pacific Division.
"I'm super-thankful that the league gave me this award," said Moar. "Obviously, there are a lot of months to play still but it's always a good thing. When players are getting recognized it means the team is doing good and this is an effort from everybody."
Now in his second season with Rising FC, Moar has picked up where he left off in the 2020 campaign for the club, when his attacking presence helped the side claim the Western Conference Title for the second time last fall. Overall, Moar is currently on a seven-game scoring streak in the Championship's regular season after scoring in the final regular-season game of 2020 and after this past Saturday night's 2-2 draw with San Diego Loyal SC the first six games this year.
A former standout for the Philadelphia Union II and New Mexico United in the Championship, Moar believes his offseason work and the return of fans at Rising FC's new expanded home at Wild Horse Pass have helped him and the team to its early success this year.
"As we know, it was a very, very long offseason. I tried to work on my own and come back as fit as possible," said Moar. "Playing four games here at home with our fans back in the stadium, that gave us the energy to go and score those goals.
"It makes it worth it, the effort that you put in on your own, behind the scenes. Coming here and see how that effort translates into victories, into good results, it makes it worth it, what we fight for."
Moar received 53 percent of a weighted poll that included the USL Championship Technical Committee, a national panel of independent media representing every USL market and an online fan vote held at USLChampionship.com. San Antonio FC's Santiago Patino finished second on 21 percent after recording five goals in five games across the month, while the Tampa Bay Rowdies Sebastian Guenzatti finished in third place on 12 percent after recording four goals and one assist in four contests.
